Happy Irony on the Radio

When we were driving back from picking up our Christmas Tree we were listening to a local station on the radio. During one of their station identifier/promo spots they said something to the effect of “Happy Holidays from Portland official Christmas music station.”

They can’t say “Merry Christmas” because that’s not politically correct. We need to not offend those that don’t celebrate Christmas, so we’ll use the generic “Happy Holidays” saying. However, we will blantently say that we are the “official” home for Christmas music on the radio in Portland. I’m sure there’s not a huge market for Hanukkah or Kwanza music in the Northwest, but still. I guess I think it’s rediculasly inconsistent on their part.

Then We’ll Make Paper Out of It

We did it tonight. We went and got us a Christmas tree. We documented the fun for you! You’ll notice in one of the photos that I’m pulling an orange extension cord out of the trunk. No, it wasn’t for an electric chain-saw (although that would have been superawesome), it was for me to lash the tree to the top of my car. I couldn’t find any rope, twine, or bungee cords, so I brought along the only thing I could find in the garage that would do the trick. 100 feet of orange magic was more than enough, but it got the job done :-) I figure it this way . . . I’m not going to remember what the tree looks like, but I’m going to remember that one time when I used an extension cord to secure the tree. Good times, indeed.
