I can plugin to that
I started writing my first Wordpress plugin tonight, and of course the thing I undertake is not a simple thing. I’ve setup a couple of websites for two different groups, and it would be ideal for them to have their own calendar on their website. However, none of the currently available event calendar plugins really fits the bill for what I’m wanting to do. Enter me and my big idea of “well, I can just build it.”
Keep in mind what I said above, this is my first attempt at a plugin. What I’m trying to achieve with the plugin is this:
- easily add, modify, and delete events in a similar fashion to how Posts and Pages are handled
- events can be set as all day events or time specific events
- events can be multiple days
- reoccuring events is a must
- functionality to display a small calendar in the sidebar, with a variable number of months displayed
- functionality to display a list of the X number of closest upcoming events
- functionality to display a full page calendar
So, as you can see I have my work cut out for me. With a very active 2-year-old at home I don’t know how much time I’ll be able to dedicate to this. I’ll definitely keep the “world” updated with my progress.

Hood to Coast with Team XO All-Stars
A buddy of mine from high school and college, and another buddy from college, have been on the team that has won the Hood to Coast each of the last 3 years. This year they are under a new name, Team XO All-Stars, but they are looking to repeat as champions. One of the runners has been keeping a blog over at OregonLive.com. Check it out.

Mac OSX Applications
I saw a post today for a Mac app that allows you to spin some virtual turntables, and create music mixes, complete with crossfades and pitch and tempo modulation. The app is called Djay. I played around with it a little bit, and I’m definitely going to be wasting a lot of time with it.
I had del.icio.us bookmarked it this morning, but couldn’t remember what the refering website was. So, I went out to Technorati to see if I could find it (I don’t think I did) and came across this other site that had also linked to Djay today, coolosxapps.net. I hadn’t ever been to this site before, and was immediately blown away by the amount of applications that have been covered by them. This is a new favorite site of mine!
